Decluttering Room By Room

Decluttering Room By Room Eliminates Unwanted Items

Decluttering room by room shows you how to declutter and eliminate unwanted things without stressing you out. It involves planning and doing it in manageable bite-size chunks.

By doing it room by room, we can manage the amount of stuff we have to sort out at any one time.

These days, we live in modest houses that do not suit us well with storage. Plus, new homes these days have limited storage and smaller rooms compared to 30-40 years ago. Having lots of stuff does not help when we have limited space.

Why do we need this stuff?

Over the coming years, we have become overwhelmed with stuff we think we need or want, and we can not live without it! If you looked around your house right now, could you find ten items you brought, and really, you don’t need them? Did you buy it online because you thought you needed it, or do you need it because your life won’t be the same without it?

These days, many families live with way too much stuff. We get so bogged down with how many things we fill our homes with. Leading to feeling miserable and overwhelmed, and you can not relax and concentrate on the things that matter. I was this at one point, and decluttering room by room became my life and changed it for the better. Now, we live with the stuff that serves us a purpose and that we want in our home, not because we are convinced we need it.

Decluttering Room By Room The Challenge

Decluttering room by room should serve as a challenge and a way to a fresh start. We are getting rid of unwanted stuff and moving toward free space, organized areas, and a place to relax or concentrate. A freer space a freeer mood.
Living in a three-bedroom house with limited storage and space and not having a garage, we stored everything in the loft. Over time, we have filled our house with lots of stuff! When stuff lurks around the home, we pop into the loft. Not able to get in the loft at one point due to so much stuff. I thought out of sight, out of mind. But it is far from the truth because I must organize this as I run out of room. Rooms started to become overwhelmed, and that was when the challenge came into play. So, let’s look deeper at how we did this.

Creating a mindset that decluttering is what we want to do. There is no point in starting and giving up after the first room. Remembering this is a fresh start; we want to live without clutter. Most of us do not have the luxury of space to lay all our stuff out and decide what we want, so room by room is an easier way to do this.
Start with a smaller room or one with less clutter. Create a good start, and do not overwhelm yourself immediately, as this will give you the feeling of giving up. Start small, aim big.

let’s look at the steps:

Step By Step The Challenge

  1. Get everything out of the room except the furniture. Laying out all your stuff in another room, such as a spare room or living room.
  2. Pop out three boxes: one for keep, one for sale, and one for donate, plus an extra bag for rubbish.
  3. Then, go through all your stuff bit by bit and see what boxes you will put it in.
  4.  Clean the empty room, then return your keep box to that room—label the box. Then you want to keep your stuff in boxes for a week, seeing what you use from those boxes. Once you use the item, pop it back as you go.
  5. Once you reach the end of the week, evaluate what you have left in the box and see if you want or need it. If not, put it in the box, sell it, or donate it.

Achievement Decluttering Room By Room

Now that we have completed one room, we will move on to the next. Take each room a week at a time. So, if you have 6-8 rooms in your home, this will take 6-8 weeks. The main aim is to reduce your stuff by at least 40-60%. Some tasks will take time, so if you are looking for a quick fix, then this is not the challenge for you.

Once we have decluttered our stuff, you want to aim to declutter everything, including emails, paperwork, and bills. Give yourself another three months.

Decluttering Clothes

When decluttering our clothes, look at the situation. Coming into spring/summer, we will put away our autumn/winter clothes. Ideas for storage could be vacuum bags or boxes and pop them in the wardrobe or under the bed to store them away. Reducing clutter as you go. Firstly, you will not wear the garment anymore. Maybe they will not make it next winter, so do not store them away so sort them before you’re sore. Second, this can work with your shoes as well.

Decluttering Kids Rooms

Decluttering room by room, using the same steps as clearing the kid’s room. Get the kids to help. Lay all the kids’ stuff out in another room and explain what task you want them to achieve. You will be surprised kids will love to sort through. Explaining that it is a task and that they must eliminate unwanted toys. Kids are very resilient and do not have sentimental value like adults, so they are willing to get rid of stuff. Sorting through, popping into boxes, and taking the steps of decluttering room by room. Try to step back while they do this, as your sentimental value will impact them clearing their toys. Doing this gives you time to clean and organize the kids’ room.

Kids Toys Downstairs

Having a small home where you don’t have the luxury of a playroom or a designated area for kids’ toys, then organization is vital. You want to ensure the toys that stay in the room where you relax in the evening. Having a designated cupboard downstairs for the toys they use when playing downstairs. Then, now and then, you can mix their toys from upstairs toys to downstairs toys. Having the toys in labeled or color-coded baskets can work well for the kids as it is a simple method for them to remember when they tidy away.
Kids have too much stuff to play with. They get it all out and walk away because it’s too overwhelming. Limiting the baskets will allow them to stop feeling overwhelmed. Pop baskets away at the end of the day in a designated cupboard; this will free up space for a relaxing room.

Feeling Clutter Free

Knowing you are not cluttered and having reduced clutter in the house can be refreshing and have positive vibes. Being clutter-free gives you a sense of achievement. Will allow you to live without feeling stressed and overwhelmed by stuff. Knowing you have more time to do what you want as you do not think there is so much stuff everywhere. Coming to cleaning the home, you will find it takes half the time. Not having to move or tidy things up beforehand. Having a clean and organized home gives you a happy and positive feeling. Gives you a clearer mind and will allow you to concentrate on other things.
